Pajari secures victory on WRC3 debut

Sami Pajari held his nerve to clinch victory on his maiden WRC3 outing at Rallye Monte-Carlo on Sunday.

The reigning FIA Junior WRC champion trailed Czech star Jan Cerny after two days, but fought hard to overtake his rival in Saturday’s penultimate speed test.

He extended his advantage with a trio of stage wins on the final morning, but Cerny upped his pace and pulled back a huge 26.9sec at the rally-ending Briançonnet / Entrevaux.

Although Cerny’s late charge almost toppled Pajari from top spot, the Finn had just enough breathing space.

He remained at the head of an all-M-Sport Poland Ford Fiesta Rally3 leaderboard and eventually took the honours with 7.6sec to spare.

Enrico Brazzoli was 19min 16sec behind Cerny and completed the podium on his Fiesta debut, whilst Hungarian Zoltan Laszlo retired on Saturday evening.
