Hotshot Kimathi eyes WRC3 success on home soil

Home hero Mcrae Kimathi starts this week’s Safari Rally Kenya (23 - 26 June) as one of the favourites to win the WRC3 category.

Kimathi made his FIA World Rally Championship debut at the Naivasha-based event in 2021 and is one of five drivers in this year’s all-M-Sport Poland Ford Fiesta Rally3 field.

The 27-year-old is contesting a full FIA Junior WRC campaign this season but will turn his attentions to bringing home WRC3 points this week, where a strong result could propel him as high as second in the standings.

Joining Kimathi on the entry list are three more Kenyan drivers, including 2021 class winner Jeremy Wahome. Another Wahome, Maxine, also features on the entry list, and so does rising star Hamza Anwar.

Anwar also drove the Safari in 2021

Diego Dominguez completes the list. The Paraguayan youngster will definitely be one to watch and only missed out on WRC3 victory at Rally Italia Sardegna because of an ECU failure on the final day.
