Absent Kazunokota allows plain sailing for Sami-Joe

2020 eSports WRC champion Sami-Joe has reeled off his sixth win of the season, made all the easier after his main rival Kazunokota failed to set a time at Rally de Portugal, which took place over the weekend (13-16 May).

The eighth round of the season saw drivers contest three iconic stages from Portugal with Sami-Joe expected to see his main challenge from Japanese newcomer Kazunokota. However, with the rookie absent, Sami-Joe was able to take a comfortable 2.62 secs victory over Izamusing, who recorded his best finish of the season.

Rounding out the podium was Zeniou. The NoGrip Rally Team's third podium finish of the season sees him move within five points of fourth-placed Nexl in the overall standings. Just nine-points separate third-placed Izamusing and Zeniou with five rounds remaining.

On the teams’ side of the championship, the absence of Kazunokota saw second-placed eRally Drivers pick up just 8 points and Race Clutch storm into an almost unassailable lead, 59 points clear of all their rivals.

The next round of action sees drivers head to the Italian island of Sardinia for another gravel test from 27-30 May.
