Suninen secures WRC2 drive in Spain

Teemu Suninen confirmed on Monday that he will contest Rally RACC Rally de España next month in an all-new Hyundai i20 N Rally2 car.

The Finn shared the news on his social media pages, stating: “Hyundai Motorsport is known as a great team with strong team morale, professional and motivating mentality.

“It is great to be part of this big team, and I’m looking forward to the whole experience and delivering results in WRC2 with the new Hyundai i20 N Rally2 car at Rally de España in a couple of weeks.”

Suninen had been alternating Ford Fiesta World Rally Car and Rally2 drives with French hotshot Adrien Fourmaux at M-Sport Ford earlier in the year, but announced his departure from the British squad last month.

Shortly after leaving, Suninen revealed plans to will drive a Volkswagen Polo GTI R5 at his home rally in Finland at the in October.

Oliver Solberg and Jari Huttunen previously debuted the Hyundai's new i20 N Rally2 car at Renties Ypres Rally Belgium, with Huttunen going on to win the rally, whilst Solberg was forced to retire on Sunday morning with mechanical issues. Solberg was back behind the wheel of the car in Greece last weekend but crashed into a rock face on Saturday. 

It is not yet clear if Suninen will suit up for Hyundai Motorsport on any future events after Spain.
