WRC Backstories: Francois-Xavier Demaison

From winning multiple WRC manufacturers’ championships, to orchestrating a one-two-three podium on Monte-Carlo, to setting the quickest time ever up Pikes Peak, the current Williams F1 Technical Director Francois-Xavier Demaison has no shortage of stories to share in the latest episode of WRC Backstories, presented by Becs Williams.

The engineering brains behind drivers’ championships for Marcus Grönholm and Sébastien Ogier, as well as overseeing victories for a host of other drivers such as Petter Solberg and Jari-Matti Latvala, Demaison opens the door on the unique relationship he shared with these drivers, admitting to making Solberg cry on more than one occasion. The Frenchman also offers a first-hand comparison on the engineering differences between a WRC car and a Formula 1 car, with an answer that will likely surprise most listeners. But perhaps most revealingly, Demaison divulges on just how close the WRC came to seeing a Volkswagen Beetle.
