Solberg to drive i20 World Rally Car in Monza

Oliver Solberg has confirmed he will drive a Hyundai i20 World Rally Car at FORUM8 ACI Rally Monza next month (19 - 21 November).

Solberg made his WRC asphalt debut in Hyundai’s top-tier machine earlier this month at Rally RACC - Rally de España, where he finished seventh with new co-driver Craig Drew alongside.

He announced today (25 October) that he will be back in the car for the season finale, which marks the last outing for the current generation of World Rally Cars as the championship prepares to enter an all-new hybrid era from 2022.

The rally includes stages at the famous Autodromo Nazionale de Monza race circuit as well as demanding closed road stages in the mountains to the north of the circuit - a challenge the Swedish youngster is especially looking forward to.

“I’m really excited to be back in the Hyundai i20 Coupe WRC for Rally Monza,” beamed Solberg.

“Of course, this is the last-ever event with this generation of World Rally Cars so it’s fantastic to be driving it on its ‘farewell event’ - and for that to be on the legendary Monza circuit!

“I have some good memories from Monza after finishing 2nd in WRC2 and 7th overall last year. The stages there are very tricky and can be dry, wet or even snowy, but we’ll go there ready for the challenge and to learn as much as we can,” he added.

Solberg will share Hyundai Motorsport’s third hybrid i20 N WRC Rally1 with Dani Sordo next season.

The team has not revealed which rallies each driver will tackle, although it is understood that Sordo will support and mentor Solberg on events at which he is not competing.
