Johnston joins Katsuta for Finland

Takamoto Katsuta will join forces with co-driver Aaron Johnston at Secto Automotive Rally Finland next week (1 - 3 October).

The Toyota Gazoo Racing Challenge Program pilot announced the news today (Tuesday) with Keaton Williams unavailable for the championship’s tenth round.

Katsuta and Williams missed EKO Acropolis Rally Greece earlier this month after Williams travelled home for a family emergency. This morning he confirmed on his social media pages that the issues were still ongoing.

Johnston parted ways with Hyundai young gun Oliver Solberg last week and will step in for the Jyväskylä-based encounter.

Takamoto Katsuta has been enjoying a breakthrough season with a maiden podium coming at Safari Rally Kenya

He already has experience in the WRC’s top-tier having guided Solberg in an i20 World Rally Car twice this year and is understood to have been working closely with Daniel Barritt, who co-drove for Katsuta before injuring his back in Estonia.

“I will compete [in] Rally Finland with Aaron Johnston,” announced Katsuta. “I’m so excited, we’ll do our best! And I must say, thanks to Dan for your huge support behind us [as] always,” he added.

Katsuta currently holds sixth position in the standings after a strong first half to the year which saw him claim a maiden podium at Safari Rally Kenya in June. He retired in Estonia and Belgium but has previously tipped Finland as one of his favourite rallies.
