Fourmaux enthused by strong Spain drive

Adrien Fourmaux believes he made a significant step forward with a strong performance at RallyRACC - Rally de España.

The Frenchman’s overall classification was spoiled when he clipped a barrier in Saturday’s second leg and punctured a tyre. After replacing the wheel, he battled on with a broken driveshaft, a damaged steering arm and suspension issues.

The time lost demoted the M-Sport Ford driver to 16th at the finish, but failed to take away the delight Fourmaux felt at the progress he made in his seventh outing in a top-tier Fiesta World Rally Car.

“Of course, this isn’t the result we expected,” he said, “but the speed and the pace has been there for the whole weekend. Even on the final day we set a third fastest time.

“I really felt there was a difference for me this weekend. That difference was the confidence and the ability to be in control for all of the time – no hot moments and the pace notes and the gravel crew working really well.”

Fourmaux and team-mate Gus Greensmith will sign off on a car which delivered three world titles in two years to M-Sport at next month’s season-finale FORUM8 ACI Rally Monza (18 - 21 November).

“I’m really looking forward to Monza,” said Fourmaux. “It’s great to be working with this team and this car, it’s really nice to know there’s speed in the car.

“I remember Monza from last year and there were some very nice mountain stages which were quite similar to Spain. The circuit is different, but I’m sure the pace can be good. I’m going to take everything I learned in Spain and use it there.”
