Sami-Joe claims first Grand Final ticket

The incredible winning run of Sami-Joe in the 2021 eSports WRC Championship presented by Toyota Gazoo Racing has now extended to eight victories, earning him the first spot in the 2021 Grand Final.

The Seventh Gear eSports Club driver is yet to lose a round this season, amassing a perfect 200 points. This means that with five rounds remaining, Sami-Joe can finish no worse than seventh. Mihalo, who currently occupies eighth spot with 74 points, has no chance to overtake the Lebanese teenager.

The fight for eighth spot and the last ticket to the Grand Final remains incredibly tight. Just 12 points separate Hujda in seventh position and Marvino in eleventh.

Not only does Sami-Joe continue to win, but his winning margins keep growing. In Portugal on the weekend (14-17 May), Sami-Joe had more than a six second gap to second-placed Nexl, while Kriim rounded out the podium, more than another second down.

It was also good news for Sami-Joe’s team in the teams' championship. He was assisted by his team-mate Mihalo’s tenth-place finish, helping Seventh Gear eSports Club to 43 points – three more than second-placed Race Clutch.

This means they move back into the lead by a margin of one point. Rounding out the podium in the team standings is eRally Drivers, who were boosted by the performance of their podium-placing driver, Kriim. Their hold on third place has now been extended to 18 points over Williams eSports.

The ninth round of the season sees action move to Sardinia for the Italian round of the championship, from 28-31 May.
