Nexl halts Sami-Joe’s historic run

Two-time world champion Nexl has halted Sami-Joe’s ten-round winning streak, taking out the eleventh round of the eSports WRC Championship presented by Toyota Gazoo Racing, additionally confirming his place in the 2021 Grand Final.

The eleventh round saw action move to Japan for the first time ever and it was Nexl who adapted to the new experience the best, winning by over four seconds from Sami-Joe, who has won every other round this season. It netted the Frenchman a maximum 25 points and with two rounds remaining, he is not in danger of being overtaken by any drivers outside of the top eight (the best eight drivers earn a spot in the Grand Final).

That coveted eighth spot is currently held by Kanweex, who is eight points ahead of Marvino and 16 ahead of Mihalo, who has not competed in the previous two rounds.

The absence of Mihalo has hurt Seventh Gear e-Sport club, who only had two drivers scoring points in Japan and have now fallen 40 points behind perennial team champions Race Clutch in the overall team standings, who left Japan with an impressive haul of 52 points with three drivers finishing in the top five.

The third spot on the teams’ podium remains a far more intriguing battle with just 36 points separating third-placed eRally Drivers and fifth-placed Williams Esports.
