WRC returned to a fuller calendar with 12 events, as Sébastien Ogier won his eighth title - ending his full-time career on top. Toyota secured both championships, continuing their resurgence.

Kalle Rovanperä became the youngest-ever WRC rally winner in Estonia at age 20. New and returning events - including Safari Rally Kenya and Ypres Rally Belgium - added freshness and variety to the calendar.
