WRC 2026

Spain

The WRC returns to the volcanic landscapes of the Atlantic for the 50th anniversary of Rally Islas Canarias. Serving as the championship's fifth round from April 23 – 26, this "Golden Edition" brings Spain to the global stage with a route that is as breathtaking as it is brutal.

Based in the vibrant capital of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the 2026 itinerary features 18 special stages and over 300km of competition across the heart of the island. The centrdpiece of the opening day is a historic return to the BP Ultimate - Circuito Islas Canarias, where the WRC’s stars will compete side-by-side in a stadium-style showdown reminiscent of the legendary Race of Champions.

From the coastal sprints to the dizzying mountain climbs of the interior, Rally Islas Canarias offers a pure asphalt theatre that rewards precision and punishes the slightest hesitation.

About the Rally

Rally Islas Canarias has earned its reputation as the "Circuit of the Atlantic" due to the incredibly high grip levels of its abrasive, volcanic asphalt.
Unlike the broken, muddy lanes of Central Europe, the roads here are remarkably smooth, allowing drivers to commit to lines more akin to circuit racing. However, the technical challenge remains extreme; the routes are a relentless sequence of hairpins and elevation changes that leave no time for rest.
For 2026, tyre management is the defining strategy. The island heat and high-lateral loads place immense stress on the Hankook Ventus Z215 slicks, forcing crews to balance outright speed with thermal preservation.
The weather also adds a layer of complexity; while the coast may be basking in the sun, the high-altitude mountain stages can frequently be shrouded in "donkey’s belly" fog or sudden Atlantic showers, making the choice between the Z215 and the wet-weather Ventus Z210 a potential rally-winning decision.
