After over two decades in the WRC, the Spaniard’s role as the team’s "safe pair of hands" is more critical than ever as Hyundai battles for the manufacturers’ crown in the final year of the current technical regulations.
Sordo’s career is defined by longevity and elite-level consistency. A Junior WRC champion in 2005, he became the perfect wingman to Sébastien Loeb at Citroën, helping the brand secure multiple titles while racking up scores of podiums. His move to Hyundai in 2014 made him a cornerstone of the Korean manufacturer's line-up, where his three WRC victories and over 50 podiums have cemented his legacy as a technical master, particularly on asphalt and rough gravel.
After a brief move to a management-focused role and a competitive "hiatus" in 2025, Sordo proved his fire still burns as brightly as ever. He spent the year contesting the Portuguese Rally Championship, where he engaged in a season-long battle with Kris Meeke. In a nail-biting finale, Sordo claimed the 2025 Portuguese title, proving he hasn't lost an ounce of his clinical speed.
He rejoins the Rally1 field in 2026 to share Hyundai’s third car with Hayden Paddon and Esapekka Lappi, with his campaign likely to begin at Rally Islas Canarias.
