Nikolay Gryazin

Nikolay Gryazin’s motorsport career began as a circuit racer and in 2014 he was runner-up in the ‘touring light’ class in his home country of Russia. He switched to rallying the following year and was an immediate success, becoming NEZ champion in the R2 class.

Gryazin, who competes under a Latvian licence, also made his European Championship debut at the end of the season and that was where his focus stayed for 2016. He scored an ERC3 win in Poland during a promising year of junior action in a Peugeot 208.

He stepped up to a Škoda Fabia R5 in 2017 for a full European campaign and scored his first outright ERC win in Latvia en route to second in the junior under 28 series. He also finished second in the Latvian Championship.

During a stellar 2018 campaign, Gryazin won the European junior under 28 title and finished runner-up in the European Championship after a second win in Latvia and victory in Poland. He also claimed the Baltic Rally Trophy.

He stepped up to the WRC in 2019 and steered his Fabia to fourth in WRC2, earning a drive in the category for 2020 in a two-car team entered by Hyundai Motorsport N. Two podiums took him to fifth in the championship but he left the team at the end of the year.

Gryazin entered WRC2 again in 2021 and tried out a Volkswagen Polo GTI R5, M-Sport Ford Fiesta Rally2 and Škoda Fabia Rally2 during the year. He eventually settled on the Fabia, but ended the season sixth due to several retirements early on.

For 2022 he joins Toksport for another assault on the WRC2 series in a Škoda. Konstantin Aleksandrov will call the pace notes.
