Reigning world champion co-driver Julien Ingrassia began his navigational career in 2002 in the popular club-level rally scene in his native France.
His rallying became more serious in 2004 with a season in the Volant Peugeot 206 series, but things really took a step up in 2006 when he began a relationship with rising star Sébastien Ogier.
They became Junior world champions together in 2008 and made their World Rally Car debut with Citroën the same year. A factory-supported programme with the French manufacturer followed in 2009, before promotion to the works team in 2010, during which the pair took their first WRC rally win in Portugal.
In 2011 Ingrassia and Ogier won a further five world championship rallies, and were in the fight for the title with Sébastien Loeb until the team asked the pair to back off.
Relations with Loeb and Citroën soured, and in 2012 Ingrassia followed Ogier to Volkswagen on a long-term deal. After spending the season learning the events in a Skoda Fabia Super 2000, the pair burst back to the world stage with the Polo R in 2013 – with devastating results.
They clinched a maiden world title at their home event in France in a season that delivered nine wins, and added a second crown in 2014 with a further eight victories.
The success story continued in 2015 with eight wins and a third consecutive title, and it was a similar story in 2016 when they secured a fourth title with six wins.
But the season ended with a twist after Volkswagen's shock withdrawal left the champions without a drive for 2017. After eleventh-hour negotiations, Ingrassia and Ogier selected M-Sport, and it's all-new Fiesta World Rally Car for 2017.
It proved a wise choice, and the pair secured title wins in 2017 and 208 before returning to Citroën Total World Rally team for 2019.
