The son of EVEN driver management boss Erik Veiby, Ole Christian has inherited his father’s passion for motor sport and started out in the world of karting at the age of 14, becoming Norwegian 125cc Crosskart Champion in his debut season.
He switched to rally driving aged 16 with an ambitious plan to progress through the WRC ranks while continuing his studies at the Norwegian College of Elite Sport.
Veiby’s WRC debut came at the 2014 RallyRACC Catalunya - Costa Daurada, but it was his drive to second in the following year’s Junior WRC that marked him out as one to watch.
In 2016 he won his first Junior WRC round in Finland en route to fourth in the standings and also dipped his toe in the water of WRC 2 for the first time in a Skoda Fabia R5.
Veiby mixed WRC 2 with an Asia-Pacific Championship campaign in 2017. He finished sixth in the former after claiming his maiden category win in Poland, and was in the title fight in the latter until the final round before eventually finishing second.
In 2018 he tackled WRC 2 as a Skoda Motorsport driver, before splitting with the team late in the season and driving a Citroën C3 R5. Good early year form delivered three category podiums and he finished seventh in the points.
A mixed programme of WRC 2 and Norwegian Championship rallies delivered much in 2019. Driving a Volkswagen Polo R5, he won the Norwegian title and finished sixth in the WRC support category.
Veiby brings experience to Hyundai Motorsport N’s 2020 WRC line-up. Although new to the i20, he has previously driven R5 cars from Skoda, Citroën and Volkswagen. He is co-driven by Jonas Andersson.
