Katsuta looks to build on Monte momentum in Sweden
Toyota driver Takamoto Katsuta is taking the positives from last month’s Rallye Monte-Carlo as he looks ahead to the second round of the FIA World Rally Championship in Sweden next week.
The Japanese driver ended his run through the French Alps off the road on the final day, but his speed through the first Saturday of the season was impressive and included a stage win. Now he wants to convert that pace from the icy mountain asphalt to the snow-packed roads of Sweden's far north.
“Saturday in Monte was a very good day,” said Katsuta. “Working with the team, we changed some things in the setup and my feeling with the car was better – I was able to push more. I wanted to take that feeling to the final day, but the weather was more complicated and the conditions were tricky.
“We went off the road on a right-hand corner, it was slow, but we got stuck in a small ditch. It's a pity, but now I need to refocus for Sweden. Sweden is a very different event, but I want to find the same feeling and confidence with the car and try to do the best job for the team when we get there.”
Katsuta finished fourth on the 2022 Rally Sweden, but struggled for a result in the last two years.
