Three’s the charm for WRC Masters Cup champion Kremer

German driver Armin Kremer says his capture of this year’s WRC Masters Cup title is the result of a challenging three-year pursuit.

Kremer’s victory at last week’s EKO Acropolis Rally Greece marked his fifth first-place finish in a row and means he can no longer be caught in the championship despite still having two point-scoring opportunities available.

But the 55-year-old, who has been co-driven this season by his daughter Ella, admits that securing the title has been no easy feat, having finished runner-up in both 2022 and 2023.

“We’ve been trying for three years to win this title,” Kremer told WRC.com, “and for the first year we had a lot of technical problems, and in the second year also. But this year our run was really clear and the car has been running well, a compliment for Škoda and for the car. It’s a really nice situation.

“[Greece] was a really fantastic rally for us and we won five rallies this year, so myself, my daughter and the team are really happy with this one. Baumschlager Rallye & Racing made a really good job and we have worked very hard, so I think we deserve a little bit of a party.”

The fight for the remaining podium places in the WRC Masters Cup remains wide open, with Mexico’s Ricardo Triviño and Türkiye’s Ugur Soylu currently split by just six points in second and third respectively. The series is open to competitors aged from 50 and upwards.
