Dominguez gets Presidential support in Junior WRC title push

Paraguayan President Santiago Peña made a virtual appearance today (Thursday) at EKO Acropolis Rally Greece, reaching out to fellow countryman Diego Dominguez with a message of encouragement as he continues his bid for the FIA Junior WRC title.

Dominguez, a rising star from Paraguay, is one of several drivers in contention for the prestigious Junior WRC crown at this week's season finale. The eventual champion will receive a life-changing prize which includes an arrive-and-drive package for four European rounds of the 2025 WRC2 series — WRC’s premier support category — behind the wheel of an M-Sport Ford Fiesta Rally2 car, complete with testing and tyre support.

Following Thursday morning’s shakedown stage, President Peña video-called Dominguez, offering words of inspiration: “Rallying is a huge national passion back home in Paraguay and everyone is talking about, especially now the WRC will come to our country next year.

“It was an incredible honour for President Peña to call me today and amazing to think he will be following my results this weekend.”

This has been a breakthrough season for Paraguayan rallying. In addition to Dominguez and fellow countryman Fabrizio Zaldivar showcasing impressive speed in their respective WRC categories, Paraguay has also earned a coveted spot on the 2025 WRC calendar for the first time ever.

Rally del Paraguay will take place from 28 – 31 August 2025 and will challenge drivers on its unique red gravel roads, set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Paraná River. But for now, Dominguez’s focus remains in Greece, with the opening stage kicking off at 07:58 (local time) on Friday morning.
