Greensmith out for redemption after Rally Poland 'disaster'

Gus Greensmith will be looking for a strong Tet Rally Latvia to put a tough visit to Poland behind him earlier this month.

The Škoda Motorsport driver went to Mikołajki looking to make amends for missing out on what he felt was a good opportunity to win Rally Italia Sardegna – but it was frustration rather than redemption he found in Poland.

He ended the event ninth in WRC2, adding just two points to his tally.

“It was tough,” said the Safari Rally Kenya WRC2 winner. “In the first stage, the car felt good, but then into Friday it felt quite unpredictable on the first day and then we had some issues with the engine as well. The team did some work [on Friday evening] and the car felt a bit better on Saturday, but it was a bit of a disaster.”

Greensmith’s African win means he remains in the fight for this year’s WRC2 title, but he knows he needs to deliver strong results from Latvia and the ensuing Secto Rally Finland.

In an effort to dial himself into the precise requirements for Finland, Greensmith will contest a national rally in Tampere the week ahead of what should be the season’s fastest rally.
