Millener: Fourmaux "more than capable" of winning rallies outright

M-Sport Ford team principal Richard Millener says Adrien Fourmaux’s Croatia Rally Wolf Power Stage-winning performance has demonstrated his ability to win FIA World Rally Championship rounds outright.

The Frenchman won the 14.24km finale by 3.8sec on Sunday – a result which helped maintain his third place in the drivers’ championship standings. That maiden Wolf Power Stage success impressed Millener and inspired further confidence that a first outright world win is looming large on the horizon.

Millener said: “That was an absolutely sensational [Wolf] Power Stage performance [that] proved to Adrien he is more than capable of winning rallies outright. I am really happy with how the team performed this weekend, and we continue to carry the great momentum we have had [on] the last three events. I am already very excited for Portugal!”

Fourmaux’s hopes of a fourth straight top-five finish in WRC were dashed when he damaged the steering on his Ford Puma earlier in the day.

Fourmaux, who sits six points ahead of Ott Tänak ahead of Vodafone Rally de Portugal (9 - 12 May), added: “It was a good weekend for us. We were fighting with Ott for the first two days, we were missing a bit of performance sometimes, and were trying things with the set-up.

“We’ve been able to push a lot. We made one mistake, a small mistake with big consequences, which is a shame. But it’s like that, you have to be perfect everywhere here. We stayed on the road but we hit a concrete pole [on SS18] so we just decided to fix it and push really hard on the Power Stage to score the points. We got the maximum points, which is great, my first Power Stage win and this is really positive.”
