Junior WRC reveal five-stop 2023 calendar

The 2023 FIA Junior WRC calendar has been officially approved with the full range of surface elements encountered by the WRC drivers awaiting the Class of '23.

The 2023 calendar has a similar look and feel to 2022 with drivers once again set to encounter snow, ice, asphalt and varying gravel surfaces, kicking off in a snowy Sweden from 09-12 February.

Following on from the ice and snow of Umeå and its surrounds, Croatia provides the first asphalt challenge of the season from 20-23 April - marking the third consecutive trip to Zagreb for the juniors.

Dust and heat provide the next challenge on the calendar as the programme returns to the Italian island of Sardinia for the first time since 2019, from 01-04 June.

Next up is an all-out speed fest on the fast gravel roads of Estonia from 20-23 July, before the season once more concludes on the rough and rocky mountain roads of Greece, from 07-10 September.

"All five of the events we are going to offer something different and because of that are fan favourites," enthused FIA Junior WRC Championship Manager Maciej Woda. "I think each round will require a different approach and skillset which is very important for us to rigorously test all of our drivers and find out who really has got what it takes to be a future star of the WRC.

"The objective is for our 2023 crews to also experience as many different elements of the WRC as possible, giving them the perfect introduction to the world stage whilst whetting their appetites for future outings and successes."

The championship will once more be contested in identical M-Sport Poland-supplied Ford Fiesta Rally3 cars, meaning drivers are also be eligible to score points in the WRC3 category.

The prize package for the 2023 FIA Junior WRC champion comprises four fully-funded Ford Fiesta Rally2 prize drives with M-Sport Ford, including a pre-event test and a full allocation of Pirelli tyres
