Lindholm: It's my time

Emil Lindholm is riding a wave of strong results in the WRC2 category and - according to the Finn - he was overdue some luck.

Lindholm scored an impressive victory in the premier support category having led last weekend’s EKO Rally Greece from Friday morning. It marked his second consecutive win - although his previous triumph in Finland was aided by Teemu Suninen’s disqualification.

The Škoda Fabia Rally2 Evo driver now sits second overall in WRC2 and leads the WRC2 Junior contingent. It’s a stark contrast from last year when he retired four times during the mid-season.

Speaking to WRC.com after the Acropolis, Lindholm admitted he’d been waiting for his luck to change.

“Things are going well, but if you look at the statistics, I think they should be,” he said. “In the past few years we have honestly had so much misfortune and bad luck.

“We’ve had things happen that I could never imagine. For instance, just to name one thing, on an ERC round we had some plastic go into the brakes and we lost the brakes in the middle of a stage.

“I’ve honestly been counting on the fact that at some point it would turn around, and at last it is. Having said that, of course it does not make me happy to see some of the other guys having problems,” he added.

Lindholm’s next task is to decide how he will end the season. With a fighting chance of taking the title, the 26-year-old has only started five rallies. That means he has two scoring rounds remaining.

October’s Rally RACC - Rally de España is definitely on Lindholm’s to-do list and he admitted he’d like to go to Japan in November. But, for that to happen, he still has some work to do.

“I guess Japan could be a good option,” he said. “But right now I need to find some financing to do this rally. That’s what I am wishing for.”
