Aaron Johnston
Johnston began competing in rallies as a co-driver in 2011, participating in various national events across the United Kingdom and Ireland. From 2017 onwards he expanded programme, gathering experience across Europe with outings in Estonia, Latvia, France and Belgium.
Johnston joined Oliver Solberg, son of 2003 WRC champion Petter, in 2019. The pair won Latvia's round of the FIA European Rally Championship (ERC) with a Volkswagen Polo GTI R5 and also topped the podium in several American rallies with the Subaru Motorsports USA team. The same year, Johnston also made his debut in WRC, partnering Solberg in the Polo at Wales Rally GB.
In 2020 he continued his alliance with Solberg, competing in both ERC and WRC3. The pair won rallies in both championships, finishing second overall in ERC and third overall in WRC3.
Johnston went on to compete alongside Solberg for Hyundai Motorsport in both WRC2 and in the WRC's premier category until the middle of the 2021 season, when he switched teams to partner Toyota's Takamoto Katsuta from Rally Finland onwards.
During their three-year partnership, Johnston and Katsuta have claimed several WRC podiums, the first of which came at Safari Rally Kenya in 2022.
