Hirvonen
praises WRC
Academy

FIA World Rally Championship title chaser Mikko Hirvonen has praised the FIA WRC Academy after meeting the crews on the most recent round of the young driver-training series in Greece.

Hirvonen, currently second to factory Citroen team-mate Sebastien Loeb in the WRC drivers’ standings, offered advice to the WRC Academy runners during a discussion session prior to the start of the Acropolis Rally in late May.

“The WRC Academy is a very good initiative and a very good series for young drivers to be involved in,” said Hirvonen. “It is a great way to gain experience of the WRC and learn how to compete on a range of events.

“All the WRC Academy guys are really enthusiastic and eager to learn and they seem to have learnt a lot already. The WRC Academy is certainly a very good stepping stone for the future.”

Spanish WRC Academy participant Jose Suarez said: “The session with Mikko was very informative and we learned a lot from him. It was a great opportunity to speak to someone at his level and gain some tips and advice from someone at the top of the sport, something that we would never have had the chance to do outside of the WRC Academy.”
