As well as contesting the six-event WRC Academy series, competitors will undertake several training sessions during the year to equip them with the necessary skills needed to be successful at the sport’s highest echelon.

The two-day course at category promoter M-Sport’s headquarters in Cumbria, north-west England, will include guidance on technical set-up, a gearbox demonstration, driving instruction and assessment by multiple Italian champion Andreucci, administrative training, team building, media relations, sports science and fitness.

“Being a top WRC driver is about more than driving fast,” said M-Sport boss Malcolm Wilson. “To become a world champion, a driver must be accomplished in so many other areas and the FIA WRC Academy is unique in training some of the world’s best young drivers for this.

“Driving style and speed are always going to be important, and the WRC Academy will help improve this, but a driver must also have the right attitude towards the media, towards physical fitness and be fully aware of the preparation required for each event.

“These training sessions will provide the WRC Academy crews with unrivalled access to some of the sport’s most accomplished and respected individuals and the knowledge and experience they can provide is second to none.”

All WRC Academy competitors use identical Ford Fiesta R2s prepared by M-Sport and run on Pirelli tyres as standard. Andreucci is attending in his role as Pirelli’s official test driver. Intercom manufacturer Peltor, another WRC Academy partner, will also host a talk during the training event.
