Local hero Patrick Sandell has lost the lead of the Production World Rally Championship competition after spinning his Peugeot Super 2000 car on Saturday’s last stage.
“I had a spin after 5km, hit a snow bank and the car got stuck off the road,” said Sandell. “Spectators came to our assistance, but it took about two and a half minutes to get going again. It’s a shame - but that’s rally. We have set some good times here and I promise we are going to win some rallies this year. For now we’ll try and grab as many points as we can.”
Sandell’s loss was Juho Hanninen’s gain and the Mitsubishi driver moved into the lead of the class. Jari Ketomaa moved up to second, Martin Prokop into third while Sandell dropped to fourth.
