Bernacchini, who actually lives in Poland through his marriage to a Pole, has been a regular in the World Rally Championship for several seasons. After stints working alongside Mirco Baldacci and Gigi Galli, Bernacchini joined forces with Nasser Al-Attiyah for 2009 and the pair have gone on to form a successful partnership since.

In 2013, Al-Attiyah and Bernacchini will compete in seven rounds of the WRC, whilst also running a campain in the Middle East Rally Championship. Their first appearance in the Ford Fiesta RS WRC will be at February's Rally Sweden.
