The 21-year-old rising Finnish star has won all five rounds of this season’s Finnish championship and has all but been crowned national champion for the first time.
He will be competing in Jyvaskyla for a second year in succession in what could be the first of four appearances in this season’s world championship. He will be eligible for SWRC points as a wildcard entrant.
“I am looking to be world champion, that’s my main target and now that I have a management agreement with EVEN Rally it is maybe possible to get there,” said Lappi. “It’s a very long way to go but and we have a lot of jobs to do but hopefully someday it can happen.
“On this rally there is no pressure, I am here to enjoy myself and have fun,” continued Lappi, who will drive a Ford Fiesta S2000. “I want to try and beat Andreas Mikkelsen although I don’t have the experience he does. But this is Finland, I live 80 miles from here so there is a chance. I don’t know the roads so well but they are basic Finland roads, fast with jumps.”
Lappi is also confirmed for ADAC Rallye Deutschland at the end of August when he will switch to a Citroen C2 R2.
