Career Summary

Andersson holds the record for being the only driver to win the Junior World Rally Championship not once but twice after triumphing in 2004 and 2007 with the works Suzuki squad. He also famously hit the headlines in his native Sweden last year when his wife gave birth on the side of a motorway after their baby, a son, arrived ahead of schedule. When Suzuki withdrew from the WRC after one season in the big league in 2008 Andersson found himself pretty much on the sidelines until a starring drive in the SWRC section of Rally Sweden in 2010 brought him back into the spotlight. He impressed on a one-off drive with the semi-works Ford squad on Rally Bulgaria before members of the public helped him raise the funds to drive a new-generation World Rally Car in Sweden last season. But after winning the event’s first stage he rolled on the very next test. He completed the year driving in the Intercontinental Rally Challenge with the factory PROTON squad, with whom he will contest the SWRC in 2012.
