When Thierry
met Mark

Thierry Neuville has revealed that Mark Webber is a fan of the FIA World Rally Championship following a chance meeting between the pair during the summer.

Citroen Junior World Rally Team star Neuville and Red Bull Formula One ace Webber were both in action at the Goodwood Festival of Speed event in the United Kingdom back in July where they got chatting about their respective seasons at the sharp end of world motorsport.

Speaking about their encounter during last month’s ADAC Rallye Deutschland, Neuville said: “He has quite good information about the WRC, he knew I had finished fifth in New Zealand for example and he knows a few rally drivers as well. It was interesting to talk to him about Formula One and his career. We only spoke for five minutes but it was interesting.”

Although Neuville was on hand at Goodwood to give various guests high-speed rides on the event’s rally stage in a Citroen DS3 WRC, the Belgian said Webber hadn’t climbed aboard the French machine. “He was too busy with his other things and it was just before the grand prix at Silverstone, which is like nearly a home event for him so very important,” said Neuville.

Asked whether he would like to sample Webber’s Red Bull RB8, Neuville said: “Of course I would like to try his car but first I have to be on the top level of the WRC and only then would I be free for some pleasure in different cars.”

Neuville is back on WRC duty on Wales Rally GB from 12-16 September.
