BP Ford Abu Dhabi team director Malcolm Wilson has promised to get to the bottom of his team's disappointing performance in Rally Mexico - an event he described as 'one of the most difficult for some time'.
The team's two Focus RS WRC drivers Mikko Hirvonen and Jari-Matti Latvala finished the event in fourth and fifth place - more than 1min 20sec behind the closely bunched trio of Citroens ahead.
Despite tackling the loose stages from different positions in the all-important running order, the Ford pair failed to collect a single stage win all weekend. And just three weeks after Hirvonen won the opening round in Sweden, both drivers were frustrated by their lack of competitiveness.
"We lost too much time on the first day but we don't know why," said Wilson. "We need to find the reasons, and we will, but at the moment it's a bit confusing. There's a lot of work to do but we'll dig deep and come back fighting.
"It was a tough weekend for us and the results weren't as good as we had hoped," added Ford of Europe motorsport chief Gerard Quinn. "But sometimes you have to scrap hard to earn a result and that's what we did here. To take away good points after a less than perfect weekend is a sign of our determination."
