Protasov on the
brink of big
prize

As prizes go, five fully paid rallies in a Subaru Impreza R4 certainly takes some beating. That's what's on offer to the winner of the inaugural Rally Class series, the feeder category to the Production Car World Rally Championship.

With one round, in Spain this week, remaining, Yuriy Protasov is on the verge of taking the spoils courtesy of a commanding 19-point lead. A finish in Salou on Sunday put the destination of the inaugural title beyond doubt.

“Although we started this first season of Rally Class with only four cars, the championship has been very interesting and competitive over the last few events,” said Rally Class founder Dirk Van der Sluys. “The atmosphere in the team and between the drivers is very good and we really look forward to seeing the final results.”

Rally Class drivers use identical Group N-specification Subaru Imprezas equipped with DMACK control tyres. The overall winner will receive five fully funded rallies in a Subaru Impreza R4 car next year, while the runner-up will be rewarded with two all-expenses paid rallies in a Group N Impreza.

Rifat Sungkar, from Indonesia and Mexican Ricardo Trvino will also be chasing Rally Class honours in Spain this week.
