Practice key
to WRC form,
says Habig

Jan Habig reckons practice would have made perfect on Wales Rally GB last week.

The multiple South African title-winner was making a one-off appearance in the FIA World Rally Championship last week and finished 28th overall. He would have been higher up the order had he not sat out the bulk Saturday’s route after he left the road on the day’s opening stage and got stuck in a ditch.

“The step up from Super 2000 to a World Rally Car was a lot more difficult than I thought it would be,” said Habig, who was driving a Ford Fiesta RS WRC for the M-Sport Ford World Rally Team alongside British navigator Robbie Durant. “I need to think about what to do but if I do come back I need to think about doing some odd events and a bit of practicing to understand how it all fits together.”

Of his moment on day two, Habig said: “We were hopelessly too fast for a corner in the fog. We killed the speed by spinning the car but then I kept going backwards and slipped of the road at the point where there was a ditch. We got stuck and that was it for the day.”
