Novikov
to repay
backers
in 2013

Evgeny Novikov has vowed to repay his supporters when he embarks on his second full season in the FIA World Rally Championship in 2013.

The 22-year-old from Russia will pilot a Ford Fiesta RS WRC for the Qatar M-Sport World Rally Team next season when he will be expected to challenge for regular podium finishes based on his strong performances during the 2012 season.

“I am very glad to be representing Qatar and M-Sport next year,” said the Moscow-based driver. “I would like to express huge gratitude to all those who supported me and believed in me: my mentor Mikhail Lepekhov, Malcolm Wilson, my family and my fans.

“In 2013 we will fight at the top level and do our best to please those who have supported us all these years.”

Although no confirmation has been forthcoming, Ilka Minor is set to co-drive Novikov in 2013. The Austrian lady deputised for the injured Denis Giraudet last season and formed a successful partnership with Novikov.

Did you know? Novikov placed sixth in the 2012 WRC drivers’ standings with second-place finishes in Portugal and Italy.
