Mahonen takes on
new FIA rallying role



New FIA Rally Director Jarmo Mahonen says he cannot wait to take on the challenge of putting the FIA World Rally Championship firmly back on the global map.

Mahonen, a prime mover behind Neste Oil Rally Finland in the past, will be responsible for managing a new rallying structure within the FIA with the continued assistance of Michele Mouton.

He will be relocate from his native Finland to the FIA’s offices in Geneva, Switzerland.

“We are at the dawn of a fresh and exciting era for our sport and having a new and dedicated management team in place will ensure we are ready to respond to future challenges,” said Mahonen. “Putting the FIA World Rally Championship firmly back on the global map is a priority, as is ensuring we have a clear cost-effective structure and ladder of opportunity for all our competitors around the world. We have challenging times ahead, but this is going to be a very dynamic period for rallying.”

As well as his work on Rally Finland, Mahonen ran his country’s motorsport federation. He will continue in his role as President of the WRC Commission.
