Loeb not holding
out for Finland
treble

Sebastien Loeb has played down his chances of a third Neste Oil Rally Finland victory when the FIA World Rally Championship qualifier gets underway in Jyvaskyla on Wednesday.

The runaway title leader claimed his second triumph in Finland by leading from the front on all three days of the gravel event in 2011. He is one of the favourites for first place at the wheel of the Citroen DS3 WRC he shares with co-driver and fellow eight-time world champion Daniel Elena.

“I say the same thing every year, this is not my favourite rally,” said the 38-year-old from France. “The stages are magnificent, but the trees are bit too close to the road for my liking. I have always managed to avoid going off, undoubtedly because I don’t go flat out if I don't feel totally comfortable behind the wheel.”

He continued: “To be totally honest, it is difficult to say whether I'll be going for the win or not. I’ve got such a healthy lead in the world championship that I don’t need to take any risks. But if I feel that I am capable of winning, then I’ll go for it. After a good break, I am pleased to get behind the wheel of the DS3 WRC.”

Loeb tested in Finland at the weekend. He holds a 38-point title lead with six rounds remaining.
