Stobart VK M-Sport Ford rally driver Gigi Galli got a surprise on Sunday evening when more than a dozen of his WRC colleagues visited him in hospital wearing only their underwear.
Galli is recovering well after the operation to repair his broken leg on Friday evening, and is expected to leave hospital and return home to Italy on Wednesday.
After the finish of Rallye Deutschland, a group of the WRC’s leading drivers and co-drivers went straight to visit Galli at the Barmherzige Hospital in Trier. And to cheer him up they decided to storm his room dressed only in their fire proof underwear.
“It was great to see all my team mates in the hospital and a surprise to see them all walk into the room in their underwear...” said Galli. “We have a great team spirit between all of the Ford crews and it really is just like a big family. The doctors tell me the operation went very well so hopefully I will recover soon and get back to action for all of my fans.”
A decision concerning Galli’s replacement on the next WRC round in New Zealand is expected in the next couple of days.
