Forty per cent of votes received were for the M-Sport-built machine, which carried Craig Breen to the Super 2000 World Rally Championship title and Maciej Oleksowicz (pictured) to two podiums in the SWRC. Esapekka Lappi was also driving a Fiesta S2000 when he led the SWRC on Neste Oil Rally Finland.
Despite its success in the SWRC in 2012, the Fiesta S2000 is perhaps a surprise choice of car of the year: Citroen’s DS3 WRC netted 19 per cent of the votes even though it won 10 of the 13 world championship rounds in 2013 outright and helped Sebastien Loeb to a ninth drivers’ crown and Citroen to an eighth makes’ award. The Fiesta S2000 also finished ahead of the Fiesta RS WRC, which finished second in the voting on 20 per cent.
Fourth place went to the Skoda Fabia Super 2000 with fifth place going to the MINI John Cooper Works WRC.
