“I’ve had lots of favourite moments in the WRC but if I was just to pick one then I’d have to choose last year’s Rally de Portugal.
“To be the first driver to compete in a MINI, the S2000 spec that would later become the MINI John Cooper Works WRC, in Portugal was just brilliant. The fact it was on home soil was even more special. I’m always going to be the first person who did that and that is something nobody can take away for me.
“It was also the first time returning to my home stages since I’d claimed a double world title in the Production Car World Rally Championship. The Portuguese fans have always been very supportive, and they have been since my first ever rally.
“And it was fantastic to be able to make the step up to the WRC with so many familiar faces supporting me. All my family and friends were all there to support me and despite retiring due to mechanical problems when I was seventh overall, it was one of the best moments in my career so far.”
