Flying into Paris international airport and catching a train to Valance may be the cheapest way to get to the city, but travelling to Valence from Nice is still the best way to get to the rally. No matter where you fly to, you will still need to find a hire car to take you around the country and between stages.

If you're driving, you will find Valence on the River Rhone on France's A7 or A49. Once you arrive, try to pull yourself away from the rally action long enough to see the 12th century Cathedral St-Apollinaire, one of the city's most beautiful landmarks.

If you are planning on visiting Monaco for the weekend's Superspecial stage, or want to drive into the mountains to watch Sunday's stages, flying into Nice and hiring a car should be your method of choice. The airport facility in Nice, www.nice.aeroport.fr is top-notch, and it is not a difficult drive to Monaco or Valence with the autoroute taking you directly to both locations.

Despite the fact that staying, eating and entertaining yourself in the principality can be expensive, there are plenty of money-conscious options for getting there thanks to the multitude of budget airlines that fly in a out of Nice at this time of year.
