Wrc.com's travel guide to Rally Mexico

Part one - How to get there

The city of Leon - officially named Leon de los Aldama - is the fifth most populous city in Mexico and the largest city in the state of Guanajuato. It's also the host city for Rally Mexico and because more than 1.4 million people call the place home, getting there isn't a problem.

Del Bajo International airport is less than 50km from the city centre. It's not big, but has direct flights to and from airport hubs including Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles and Mexico City - all of which have extensive links to the rest of the world. For more information about getting to Mexico try the national tourism website: www.visitmexico.com

Alternatively, if you fancy taking in a bit of the local countryside, another option is to fly to Mexico City and drive the 380km to Leon. It's a great chance to make a full week of the country in the run-up to the rally. Two handy hints - although there's not much traffic, new roads are constantly being built and the signposting doesn't always keep up. It's easy to get lost, so keep an eye on the maps. A few words of Spanish will also come in handy.
