The rally team have landed! Becs fills us in on what New Zealand's like so far...
We are here, finally! 28 hours later (was that a film?) and we landed in Auckland. Flying into New Zealand looks exactly like flying over Wales and I did for one paranoid moment think that we had just been circling my fine country for the duration - I mean once you put on the sleep eye mask and head to the world of nod the pilot could be taking you anywhere.
If I wasn't sure of my destination then I became aware quite quickly when I was asked a series of serious questions about fruit when I was heading through customs. You see, you are restricted from bringing certain food items into the country all for a very good reason but it does make you very on edge and raises concerns that you may indeed have the odd apple, orange or watermelon knocking about in your bag when you have testified that you haven't.
Sniffer dogs will find you out and so will the X-ray machines. Thankfully I didn't have a mystery pineapple in my bag (as the woman in the warning video shown on the plane did) so I was free to go.
I'm not going to wax lyrical this week as I normally do - that's Colin's job, he will be updating this page during the week. Colin has got himself a 'run-around' with a difference for this event and he will be telling you all about it on the website and on the radio...if any of you listened in last year then you may know what I'm talking about!
So we will be on air from the following times this weekend - NZ is GMT+12 so we are desperately hoping that we will have some listeners outside of the time zone - remember kids, coffee helps a lot.
Friday: 0900hrs
Saturday: 0845hrs
Sunday: 0900hrs
If you are feeling creative then put fingers to keys and knock out an email to radio@wrc.com.
We are miles away from home and feeling lonely so reach out y'all.
Becs
