Here's a holiday postcard from Becs Williams:
Salou - holiday town and for this week host to the WRC. There are a lot of people here with strange sunburn marks and inflatable paraphernalia, they are of course on holiday and are no doubt wondering what all the fuss is about with the cars.
At my hotel last night a little old lady asked what we were all protesting about as she heard there was a rally going on. I did explain that it wasn't the 'angry mob' kind of rally and that they were some rather fast cars involved but I don't think we will be seeing her at the end of a stage anytime soon. Good old Beryl.
There are of course people here who have come to Salou purely for the rally itself - mostly from Wales it seems, as they were all on my flight yesterday. I could tell they were my fellow countrymen/women when the air stewardess paraded a lost jacket around asking if it belonged to anyone one of the gang chipped in and said 'Is there any money in it, if so its mine'. Typical Welsh, I was genuinely proud.
That was on Tuesday and since then hundreds more fans have flocked here ready for the weekend, which is great to see. So what are we at World Rally Radio up to then? Well the station is in the hands of Jari-Matti Latvala this weekend who has already selected a plethora of eighties tunes and some more recent tunes just to balance things out.
Jari-Matti is an aficionado on all things eighties so we will be testing him on his prowess in our own little 'Mastermind' challenge. Colin Clark will be back in action talking to the drivers at the stage ends in his own fabulous way and waxing lyrical about his recent jaunt as a co-driver. I will be in my wonderful WRC truck here in the service park trying to keep it all ticking over whilst talking to a host of guests - who they are yet we don't know but I'm sure someone will pop in for a coffee.
Right that's it then - I need to set-up our studio now and find the elusive telecoms man who is insisting on playing hide and seek with my broadband line. It's the behind the scenes stuff that is really enthralling - honest!
Here are our on-air times for the weekend, all times are CET
Friday: 0800hrs
Saturday: 0830hrs
Sunday: 0745hrs
If you feel the need to reach out to someone then you can email us at radio@wrc.com
