There's only one left. Just one.
It could be quite a sad statement, like if there is only one doughnut left in the box and there are six of you who want it. Or it could be a happy statement, like there's only one more day till Christmas (I'm trying to be festive okay).
But for us, the petrol heads of WRC, I think it's a mixture of both. After 14 events some are a little war weary, keen not to spend anymore time in an airport, eager to not sit in another press room with deadlines looming all around you. Others are as fresh and full of rally fever as they were on the first round in Monte. One thing unites them all and that is the desire to witness a thrilling final round. Fingers crossed we get it.
Wales Rally GB is our home event at WRR, no flights for us thankfully, just a quick pootle down the motorway in my car and I'm in the heart of it all, Colin has a slightly longer pootle but you get the drift. It's Monday and as I write this its -1.5 degrees outside and my garden is covered in frost, I have just checked the forecast for the week and it is suitably awful with threats of rain, sleet and freezing fog. Most people will moan but what do you expect for December in deepest, darkest Wales?
I drove through the thickest fog I have ever seen on the weekend and if the drivers have to contend with that then good luck to them, I was averaging about 20 miles an hour (okay, 10) and it felt like I was trapped in a huge marshmallow. It will take iron nerves and supreme confidence to tackle our marshmallow fog at speed.
So - what do we have lined up for the final round? Lots. How we will pack it all in is anyone's guess, we may just keep broadcasting till the first round in Ireland to fit it all in, pausing in the middle for a spot of Christmas dinner.
Firstly all the crew will be there; the one and only Colin Clark will be venturing out to the forests armed with his trusty microphone and his boyish charm - he will be joined by the rather fabulous Lisa O'Sullivan who is our second stage end reporter for the event. 'WRC central' will be manned by the very lovely Chris and Mark who have resisted the urge to fill the music list with Christmas tunes and are standing by for any musical requests you have. And I will be in the service park, in my shiny silver truck keeping you up to date with the latest gossip as it happens. I maybe a tad lonely on Friday as everyone escapes to the remote service in Builth Wells, so if you want to reach out you know where I am.
We have competitions galore with prizes from all the manufacturers up for grabs, the drivers will be assessing their performances this season, Col and I will be sleuthing to find out who will go where next year and a special 'take-over' will be happening. Fever.
You really cannot miss the final round. I insist you join us, no excuses are valid (unless you are competing) our on air times (CET -1) are below, we will be waiting.
Friday: 0845hrs
Saturday: 0800hrs
Sunday: 0730hrs
To listen in, simply push the World Rally Radio button on the left-hand side of the screen.
I'm now off to find some marshmallows, I have a strange craving for them all of a sudden!
