Here’s what Jost Capito, Volkswagen team principal and former Ford Racing director, had to say:
Q: What makes Sebastien Loeb such a great driver?
JC: “Not only is he extremely quick, but he is also a very clever driver who makes very few mistakes. At the same time, he is also extraordinarily fair. Despite his many successes, he has never become big-headed, but always has respect for his opponents and behaves fairly.”
Q: Where does he rank in the all time great drivers?
JC: “Every era is different – technology, the competition and the rallies have changed. As such, it is impossible to compare drivers from different decades. Based solely on the number of titles and victories, he is obviously the best.”
Q: Do you have a favourite ‘Loeb’ memory?
JC: “A few years ago, Loeb made a mistake in Sweden. However, rather than continuing at any cost, he waited and allowed his rival Mikko Hirvonen to pass. In this situation, he put fair play ahead of his own success – that is what makes him a true champion.”
