Rally
Guanajuato
Mexico:
five reasons
to get excited

Anticipation is high in the FIA World Rally Championship powered by Nokia with the first gravel event of 2012 about to get underway on Rally Guanajuato Mexico. Here are five reasons why the rally will be a showstopper.

1: Block is back

He’s one of the WRC’s most famous competitors thanks to his exploits behind the wheel of his Monster World Rally Team Ford Fiesta, not to mention his starring role in the Gymkhana internet videos - and he’s contesting his first world championship rally of the year in Mexico, the scene of his WRC debut back in 2007.

2: Atko returns

It’s been more than three years since Aussie hero Chris Atkinson graced the world stage. But he’s back in action in a Monster Fiesta and anxious to make up for lost time. With a strong record in Leon, Atkinson will be one to watch.

3: Mexican heroes in action

Several leading Mexican drivers will be competing on their home round of the WRC with two, Francisco Name and Ricardo Trivino, driving top-of-the-range World Rally Cars. Meanwhile, Benito Guerra begins his bid for the PWRC crown and is a contender for victory.

4: Gravel excites

Rally Guanajuato Mexico marks the first of six events on gravel, the dominant surface in the WRC. Gravel always provides an extra unknown and that’s set to be the case this year with a thrilling battle for victory expected.

5: Battle of the fittest

With two runs over a 42-kilometre test on Saturday and one pass over a 54-kilometre stage on Sunday, Rally Guanajuato Mexico could turn into a battle of the fittest with drivers and cars subjected to considerable punishment.
