As part of a new feature on WRC.com, we are asking stars from the WRC where they will be celebrating Christmas this year. Craig Breen, the Super 2000 world champion, reveals all.
“This Christmas will be a lot different for one big reason,” said Irishman Breen. “Obviously, Gareth [Roberts] and his family will be at the forefront of my mind over the Christmas period. It’s going to be a very difficult time for us all, because as much as we tried to be as professional as we could when competing, we were both children at heart, and Christmas was and always will be very special.
“I shall be spending this Christmas break between relaxing with family and friends, and trying to secure a deal for next season. My sister is returning from Australia with her boyfriend, and I haven't seen her since last year, so that will be nice. This will also be my first Christmas away from home, as I now live with my girlfriend Vivienne. But I'm only a few miles from home, so I think I may end up there for some pudding on Christmas day!
“It will for sure be a bittersweet Christmas this year, and if I could have any present, I would wish for hope and happiness for Gareth’s family. They really have just been incredible since the accident, and to be honest, I simply could not have done it without them.
“I want to enjoy this Christmas by spending as much time with my family and girlfriend as I can. I want to recharge the batteries, train hard, and be fit and ready to carry on this dream next year. Nothing is going to stop me now.”
