"When it comes to making decisions, it is important that Scott and I are both on the same page; that he knows what I'll do and I know what he'll do. If he loses his place in the pace notes for whatever reason (doesn't happen often!) he needs to know and be confident that I'll then take over and continue driving until he regains his place. I have confidence he will regain his spot in the notes and he has confidence I can continue to drive at pace without him. Though not for long!
"Other things come into the equation as well. Diet and nutrition are important and I need to keep myself in top physical condition. I tend to eat as any sportsman would, with plenty of fruit and vegetables and carbohydrates for those long days. I do try to stay away from high cholesterol foods, although with all the travelling throughout the season sometimes it is difficult to stay on top of my diet and exercise regime.
"I suppose one of the key factors in my preparation for any race, be it a rally in the WRC or anything else, is experience. I rely heavily on what I've learnt in the past and continue to learn. Experience helps me to make those snap decisions that I make hundreds of times during a rally. But if I prepare properly then I feel ready for anything!"
