Five of the best:
Wilson's favourite
Ford wins

Jari-Matti Latvala's victory on Rally Sweden last month was the 50th for the Ford and M-Sport partnership. Wrc.com asked team boss Malcolm Wilson to pick out his five favourite wins from an astonishingly successful partnership.

Carlos Sainz, Acropolis Rally, 1997

“This was the first win that we had together with Ford, in the Escort WRC, and we finished one-two with Carlos and Juha Kankkunen - although I had to use team orders then to make sure of it!”

Colin McRae, Safari Rally, 1999

“If I had to chose just one, this was my favourite of all. The Focus WRC was brand new and the Safari was the toughest rally in the world. Colin didn’t win a single stage but it was a masterful display on how to manage the car. Of course Colin was best-known for being flat-out all the time, but he was also capable of the utmost mechanical sympathy when it was required.”

Markko Martin, Rally Finland, 2003

“I think every team boss wants to win the fastest rally in the championship, and I’m no exception. The 2003 car was so quick straight out of the box, and Finland was a great win for us.”

Marcus Gronholm, Rallye Monte-Carlo, 2006

“Monte Carlo is Monte Carlo, isn’t it? It was our first rally with Marcus and really our first rally with the new car - although we’d actually given it a run out at the end of the season in Australia the year before. We didn’t expect that one, so it was quite special.”

Marcus Gronholm, Rally New Zealand, 2006

“We finished first and second, but more importantly Ford took the manufacturers’ championship for the first time in 27 years. It was just a huge relief, and I remember feeling particularly pleased that Richard Parry-Jones, who had been instrumental in putting the deal between Ford and M-Sport together, was there to share the moment with us.”
